When arrive in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, you will meet your tour guide and driver at airport or railway station. Then drive to hotel and enjoy your free time. You will see that Tibetan go shopping for Tibetan New Year every where, which gives you the Tibetan New Year’s atmosphere.

Jokhang Monastery, Barkhor Street, Potala Palace – landmark of Lhasa, Dragon King Pond

In the morning, go to Jokhang Monastery to visit pilgrimage activity on the 1st day of Tibetan New Year and have a walk at Barkhor Street. Outside the Jokhang Monastery, Tibetan people dressed in traditional national costumes come to here for praying, which decorates the street in old town into a colorful sea. In the afternoon, visit Potala Palace – landmark of Lhasa and the celebrate activity for Tibetan New Year at Potala Palace Square. Besides, watch Tibetan opera, a performance on Tibetan New Year, and large numbers of migratory birds at Dragon King Pond.

Drepung Monastery, Norbulingka, Sera Monastery

In the morning, visit “Nai Qiong La Suo” at Drepung Monastery that is a grand traditional religious activity held on the 2nd of Tibetan New Year. Lots of believers come to here for praying and pilgrimage. In the afternoon, visit Norbulingka, Sera Monastery (Buddhism scriptures debates is often held from 3:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon). During the period of Tibetan New Year, Tibetan men and women dressed costumes can be seen everywhere for Pot Dance and Xianzi Dance with a circle at square or open grassland. Accompanied by the musical instruments such as guitar, cymbals and gong, Tibetan hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder to dance and sing.

Visit Tibetan Family, Parla Lupu Cave Monastery, Panoramic view over Potala

On 3rd of the first Tibetan calendar month, it is “Tuo Sui” in Tibetan, meaning sacrificing and praying in high place. Tibetan will incense on the roof or at balcony and change a new prayer flag on the corner of the roof. In the morning, visit a Tibetan family and learn to make buttered tea and Gutu (a kind of dough drops), and participate in a ceremony of driving out evil spirits. Bless with Tibetan family, and eat Qiema and drink highland barley wine with Tibetan family. Besides, dance and sing together at balcony on the roof or at big yard. Have a lunch here. In the afternoon, visit Parla Lupu Cave Monastery, located on the slopes of Chakpori Hill (Medicine Mountain, Yaowang Shan), was built in the 7th century. It is 22m high and from here you can have a wonderful panoramic view over Potala palace. And travel with Tibetan People to incense, put prayer flags, sacrifice and pray at Chakpori Hill.
